Man Utd eye Barcelona defender in January

Manchester United could make a swoop for Barcelona center-back Ronald Araujo in January, according to reports in Spain.

The Red Devils’ interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, is believed to be keen to bring the Uruguayan international to the Premier League.

According to El Nacional, Araujo has caught the attention from Manchester United and their German coach.

If so, a bid potentially worth more than €30million (£25million) could be made in January as the record champions of England look to get back into top four contention.

Manchester United currently sit eight points behind Arsenal in fourth, albeit with three games in hand. One of those is away to Newcastle United this evening.

Rangnick has guided United to three wins from three in the Premier League since replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the start of the month, and could be given some funds to spend in the winter transfer window to strengthen the squad.

Despite the millions spent on the defence in recent years it remains leaky. And Ronald Araujo could be the latest addition to help tighten things up.
