Chelsea loan out Kenedy again

23-year-old Kenedy will spend the rest of the 2019-20 season on loan in the Spanish La Liga with Getafe, Chelsea have confirmed.

The Brazilian attacker originally signed for Chelsea in 2015 but has seen limited opportunities in four years at Stamford Bridge.

Kenedy spent last season on loan with fellow Premier League side Newcastle United, having previously spent the second half of the previous season with them. He was also loaned out to Watford for the 2016-17 Premier League season but was limited to just one appearance with the Hornets.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez was a fan of the attacker during his time at St James’ Park, handed Kenedy 38 Premier League appearances over a season and a half. However, the Spanish manager left Tyneside for China during the summer.

Kenedy was an unused substitute for Frank Lampard’s first game in charge at Chelsea when they went down 4-0 at Manchester United in the season opener, but had not been part of the matchday squad in any of their three subsequent matches.

Getafe narrowly missed out on qualifying for Champions League football at the end of last season but will compete in the Europa League from the Group Stage this campaign.

Jose Bordalas’ squad have had a tough start to their new campaign, taking just two points from their first three games, scoring just twice. However, their defence is looking solid, having only conceded three goals – exactly one goal in each of their first three games.
