Chelsea left-back Baba Rahman has joined La Liga outfit Real Mallorca on a season-long loan, the West London club have confirmed.
The 25-year-old has struggled to hold down a place in the Chelsea team ever since joining from FC Augsburg four years ago.
Rahman made 15 Premier League appearances during his first season at Stamford Bridge but has not featured since. He spent two-and-a-half years on loan back in the German Bundesliga with Schalke 04, before spending the second half of last season in France with Stade de Reims. He has not made more than 15 league appearances in a single campaign since leaving Augsburg for England in 2015.
However, whilst Chelsea confirmed the loan deal to Mallorca, they also announced that the Ghana international had signed a new deal until the summer of 2022. He has 28 caps for his country.
Real Mallorca are back in the La Liga for the first time since 2014 following back-to-back promotions. Viente Moreno’s side started the season with a 2-1 win at home to Eibar before succumbing to two consecutive defeats before the international break.
The Palma-based club already have Japanese teenage sensation Takefusa Kubo on loan from Real Madrid and Cucho Hernandez on loan from Watford in their squad. Baba Rahman will offer the Spanish side a lot of pace bombing forward from left-back but isn’t the best defensively.
