Chelsea Ready To Beat Manchester City To Jorginho’s Signing

If reports from the Italian media are worth believing, Jorginho could choose to join Chelsea over Manchester City. The midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League champions for the best part of a month but for some reason the Citizens have not been able to complete the deal, and this has given their Premier League rivals a chance to make a move for the Italian.

According to calciomercato.com, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wants the player at Stamford Bridge and has made a big money offer to Napoli. The offer is said to be better than what Manchester City had offered and it now appears it is the Blues who will win the race to sign the player. Abramovich is said to have made the offer for the player’s signature while in discussions with Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis about Maurizio Sarri, who Chelsea are set to hire as their next manager. The fee significantly higher than no deposit free bets.

The report of Chelsea now being the favourites to sign Jorginho could well mean Maurizio Sarri is behind the deal. He has been a key player for Napoli under the Italian manager over the past couple of seasons. Maybe Sarri has convinced the central midfielder to join him at Chelsea? That wouldn’t be a surprise as football managers do this a lot. It is happening with Arsenal currently as their new manager, Unai Emery, is said to have interest in Éver Banega and Steve Nzonzi – two players he managed during his time at Sevilla.

Should Chelsea succeed in their bid to sign Jorginho, it will be interesting to see if they manage to keep hold of N’Golo Kanté or whether the new signing is coming in as a direct replacement for the energetic midfielder. Kanté and Jorginho in any midfield would be interesting, but Chelsea would have made two steps forward and three steps back if they sign Jorginho and sell N’Golo Kanté.

The Blues should be aiming to have both players in their team and not one coming to replace the other.  It would give them an excellent opportunity to at least finish back in the top four next season, if not be serious challengers for some silverware.

Napoli reportedly want €70 million (£61.4m) for Jorginho, which would break Chelsea’s transfer record.
