It’s said that Arsène Wenger held a meeting with his first team players and coaches, telling them that if a top-four finish isn’t achieved this season, it will ‘all change in the summer’.
After putting in a woeful performance and losing 3-0 to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final, Arsène Wenger and his players have come under much criticism. This criticism has forced the Frenchman to take drastic action as he now finally understands that change must come now more than ever.
The Islington Gazette revealed that an insider source told them that Arsène Wenger had a meeting with the board on Monday and then had a meeting with the players & coaches on Tuesday. Clearly, the Frenchman has taken matters into his own hands in an authoritative move to combat the rumours about an internal struggle at the club.
In recent months, Ivan Gazidis has made several alterations to the club’s hierarchy through different appointments. He appointed a new head of recruitment in Sven Mislintat, a legal adviser in Huss Fahny and a director of football in Raul Sanllehi. These appointments have lessened the burden on Arsène Wenger, allowing him to focus more on coaching. However, that extra time to coach hasn’t yielded the expected results.
Stan Kroenke, the primary shareholder at the club, has given his son Josh Kroenke ample amounts of power at the club. Josh has even moved to London from the states, so he can conduct a more thorough review of the club. As a result, he’s been tipped to become the chairman of the club in the future.
On Thursday, Arsenal will meet Manchester City again as the two have their reverse fixture in the Premier League at the Emirates. If Arsenal is to complete the impossible mission of finishing in the top 4, they must start that quest by becoming only the second team to beat City in the league this season.
