Daniel Sturridge is a great goal scorer. I personally believe he has what it takes to compete on the same level as Edinson Cavani, Luis Suárez and Robert Lewandowski, who in my opinion, are the best strikers in the world right now. You can add Kylian Mbappé to the list if you like but I would rather wait.
Unfortunately for Sturridge, Liverpool fans, and football fans in general, the 28-year-old can’t seem to stay injury free. In his first season at Anfield, he only played 14 Premier League games – partly due to the form of Luis Suárez but also because of injuries. However, he still managed to score 10 goals that season. He remained fit for much of the following season too. In 29 Premier League games, he scored 22 goals and created a couple more assists for his team mates.
Unfortunately, Sturridge has never really been fit since then. His lack of fitness forced Liverpool to sign Roberto Firmino, who, to me, is only just fitter than Sturridge. And aside from not being fit, it seems Daniel Sturridge has lost his confidence and may be in need of a move away from Anfield. He was also recently linked with a move to Arsenal but nothing came of it.
However, he could now be on his way to Italy with AC Milan said to be interested in his signature. Jürgen Klopp has recently said he would like to keep the Englishman at the club but Sturridge may want to leave. I think he should leave for a club where he can play more and in a league that is not as physical as the Premier League.
There is no point in Liverpool forcing him to remain at the club if he doesn’t want to stay as that can be counterproductive. Klopp just needs to take a look at Arsenal and the Alexis Sánchez/Mesut Özil situation.
Sturridge is valued at £22.5 million, which would be a steal should anyone sign him at that price.
