Having failed in their chase for Manchester United star David de Gea over the past two seasons, Real Madrid could make a surprise move for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, according to reports in Spain.
A report in Spanish publication Don Balon claims that the Champions League holders are weighing up a potential move for the French international.
With Real Madrid able to offer Lloris a domestic title challenge and regular Champions League football, it would certainly be a tempting offer for the Spurs captain. The North London club look far short of challenging for the Premier League title. However, they have had an impressive 2017-18 Champions League campaign so far with group stage victories over both Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
Hugo Lloris was highly-rated at Lyon before he joined Spurs for €10 million in 2012, where he has since gone on to become one of the best goalkeepers in the game today.
The 30-year-old has kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League since the start of the 2015-16 season and helped Spurs to their best ever Premier League finish last season as runners-up.
However, few players can reject a move to Real Madrid and, should the world footballing giants make an official offer for Lloris, Tottenham would have a tough job keeping hold of him. Danny Rose’s outburst over the summer could make the North London side vulnerable to losing their star players in the near future. The left-back publicly announced that Tottenham aren’t trophy contenders and don’t pay their star players the going rates.
Real Madrid have never really replaced Iker Casillas in goal. Keylor Navas started off well but has been out-of-form for a while now. He has also given away some soft and embarrassing goals during his time at the Bernabeu. Kiko Casilla has even replaced the Costa Rican at times to sum up their problems in goal.
It hasn’t helped that the Spanish side have failed in their pursuit of Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea. The 27-year-old is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world right now but, should Don Balon be accurate in their report linking Madrid to Hugo Lloris, then perhaps they’ve given up the chase on Spain’s number one.
Real Madrid have also been linked with Athletic Bilbao’s Kepa Arrizabalaga and AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.
