In January it was reported that Diego Costa had a bust up with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte which led to the Spaniard being dropped from the first team and rumoured to be moving to the Chinese Super League. The Premier League champions stood their ground and kept the former-Atletico Madrid star. Chelsea could even do the double when they face Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley in a couple of days from now.
But it is believed Diego Costa could yet leave the Blues in the summer. Atletico Madrid are known to be interested in having him back and the Chinese clubs that were reportedly interested in him in January could yet again make a move for him once the summer transfer window opens.
And it appears former-Chelsea player Joe Cole is already preparing for life without the troublesome Spaniard. According to Cole, Chelsea should make a move for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero in the summer.
Cole was quoted by Goal.com as saying; “I’d go, ‘Go get me Aguero or Sanchez or both, and I want no one else,’ and I can guarantee you they’ll win the league next year. The thing is everything is in place. Everyone keeps talking to me about, ‘Oh, they need to replace Moses or Alonso.
“They don’t, they’ve been brilliant. You don’t need to replace them. There’s enough young players as well in the academy that can come. They just need an extra bit. What [Sir Alex Ferguson] did well over the years is reignite with one or two big players.”
Imagine a team with Alexis Sanchez, Sergio Aguero, Eden Hazard, David Luiz, N’Golo Kante, Thibaut Courtios, NemanjaMatic, Victor Moses and Cesar Azpilicueta in it? That team would be more than capable of not only winning the Premier League but potentially good enough to win the Champions League as well. Especially under a good tactician like Conte.
Do Chelsea have a chance of signing any of these two players?
For Alexis Sanchez, I would say yes. The Chilean has just one year left on his contract at the Emirates and should he continue to refuse Arsenal’s offer of a new contract, Chelsea will have a good chance of signing him if they make a good offer for him in the summer. Arsenal will be reluctant sellers but knowing them, they won’t want to let Sanchez leave for free 12 months later.
Sergio Aguero on the other hand will be difficult to get. Although he is no longer a regular at Manchester City, they are certainly not in need of money and won’t be selling him to a direct rival if they were to sell him.
