Whilst the exit drive for Manchester United’s more high-profile exits has yet to begin this summer, with Bastian Schweinsteiger, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones in various levels of danger when it comes to being a part of the club come the end of the transfer window, Jose Mourinho has begun the process of allowing youngsters who have no place in his plans to leave.
To date, that has included the permanent sale of Paddy McNair and Donald Love along with the loan of Adnan Januzaj to Sunderland, with Andreas Pereira another expected to go out and gain experience at a Premier League club, preferably.
One young man who will almost certainly be given a route of some description out of Old Trafford this summer is James Wilson. The 20-year old has been out of the first team picture at United for some time, and despite registering 17 appearances during the 2014/2015 in Louis van Gaal’s first season in charge, The Telegraph are reporting that Wilson is drawing interest from both Fulham and Derby County. Currently, you’d get longer odds on Wilson being the Premier League Golden Boot winner one season in the future, than you’d find on any casino game.
A loan deal certainly seems to be the best option for Wilson at this stage of his career. His move to Brighton last January may not have been incredibly productive but if he remains highly regarded around the halls of Carrington, then loaning him out covers United’s backs should he deliver on his initial promise. His first team debut under then-interim manager Ryan Giggs in 2014 was memorable one, scoring a brace in United’s 3-1 win over Hull City, but two years on, and facing competition from the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rashford for a role up front, it makes sense for Wilson to leave the club temporarily in order to gain more first team experience, something which will be in short supply at United if he stayed.
