£37.6m Arsenal & Chelsea Transfer Target Could Move To Man United

Premier League giants Manchester United have already completed the signing of a quality centre half, signing Ivorian star defender Eric Bailly from La Liga club Villareal this summer.

However, if you believe reports in the English press, new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is looking to bolster his squad, especially the defence, ahead of next season. With players such as Daley Blind reportedly on their way out of the Old Trafford club, it is not a surprise that United are been linked with the signing of more centre backs.

Reports have it that Manchester United are interested in securing the services of another top central defender in Greece international defender Kostas Manolas. This player that has recently been linked with moves to both Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Red Devils are hoping to sign Manolas and can quickly complete his signing if they meet Roma’s valuation of around £37.6 million, according to Goal.

With United having already paid £30 million for the services of Eric Bailly, it is unlikely that the Red Devils will find it difficult to pay £37.6 million for Manolas, especially considering his quality.

Manolas, 25, is a very important member of Roma’s team and was in brilliant form for the Italy’s capital city club last season. The ex-Olympiacos centre back played 45 matches for Roma last season, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists.

However with Arsenal and Chelsea interested, what are the chances of United finalising a deal?

I personally believe Arsenal are not a major threat to United’s ambitions in this case. The Arsenal manager that I know hates engaging in a bidding war and I will not be surprised if the Frenchman pulls out. The real threat will be Chelsea. The Blues have already been linked with a £34 million failed bid for Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly and it won’t be a surprise if they up the ante for Manolas.

With both clubs not playing in the Champions League next season, it could well boil down to the club that is willing to pay the highest wages and transfer fee. However, considering how ruthless Jose Mourinho has been so far this transfer window, it will not be a surprise if the Red Devils manage to get the Greece international ahead of the chasing pack.
