According to reports, 24-year-old Turkish international Yunus Malli could be on his way to White Hart Lane. Tottenham have reportedly been scouting the attacking midfielder for some time.
Reports suggest Spurs have been regularly sending scout to FSW Mainz 05 to watch him play and Rob Mackenzie, head of Tottenham’s player recruitment, seems to have been impressed.
The Germany-born star has played through the youth ranks of German football until making the Under-21’s. At this point, he opted to switch allegiance to Turkey’s international team in October, and has so far been capped twice.
The highly-rated player has superb dribbling skills, and is a deadly goal-poacher, who has a great eye for a through ball. That will delight Tottenham’s strikers, especially Harry Kane. Towards the end of the last January transfer window, reports emerged that German champions Bayern Munich were closely monitoring the player with claims in the German media that the attacker could be available for £8.36 million, despite his current contract running until the summer of 2018.
The fact that Bayern Munich have taken notice of the player is testament to his quality. Surely the Bavarians have good scouts, as a look at their current team will rightly show.
Signing Malli will be a masterstroke for Tottenham. With the Lily Whites about to play in the Champions League next season, they surely need to ready their squad for an onslaught on both the Premier League and Europe.
And having watched the Turkey international play a couple of times, I sincerely believe he has the quality and is of the right age, with a reasonable price tag.
With Georginio Wijnaldum looking like he will be going to Liverpool, Tottenham will do well to get the Yunus Malli deal done before other clubs become interested.
