Bid Accepted, Medical Secretly Conducted, Arsenal To Announce 3rd Summer Signing

If reports in the British press tonight are anything to go by, Arsenal are on the verge of completing yet another summer signing. According to the reports, the Gunners have had a bid of an undisclosed amount accepted by Bolton Wanderers for the signing of Rob Holding.

The highly-rated centre back is reportedly set to sign a four-year deal with the Gunners and has already undergone a medical, according to theboltonnews.co.uk. If this report is true, it won’t be a surprise to many as the player has constantly been linked with a move to Arsenal since last summer.

This summer, Holding has been linked with Tottenham and Everton, which is probably an indication that he has something about him. Surely the scouts of Tottenham, Everton and Celtic can’t all be stupid to want their clubs to buy him, can they?

The signing of the 20-year-old will, however, be interesting in many respects. He is of a similar age as Calum Chambers, who is said to be on his way out of the club on a temporary basis on a season-long loan spell. Surely there is a chance that Wenger sees both Holding and Chambers as the future of the club, but by sending Chambers out on loan and signing Rob Holding, who looks like he will be with the first team, it shows Wenger doesn’t really think Chambers is ready.

Also, the signing of the young centre back could mean that Arsenal do not intend to give Mertesacker another contract at the end of his current deal, which reportedly expires in 2017.
