Arsenal Favorites To Sign £30m-Rated Star Despite Chelsea Interest

With all the rumours linking Arsenal to the signing of one player or another so far this summer, it is obvious Wenger is not only trying to sign a striker, but he is endeavouring as well to land a wing forward. Arsenal have already been linked with Mkhitaryan, Draxler and now Mahrez.

Latest reports claim Mahrez has rejected a new contract offer from Leicester City, preferring to leave the club this summer with Arsenal said to be one of those clubs likely to sign him. The Gunners were said to be interested in signing the Leicester City playmaker last summer, according to Daily Star, and have now renewed their interest in the Algerian.

According to reports, La Liga champions FC Barcelona are no longer interested in signing the north African. However, Premier League rivals Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing the attacker, according to the Mirror.

The edge Arsenal have over Chelsea is that the west London club will not be participating in the UEFA Champions League next season. According to Mirror, the Algerian is on the lookout for a contract that will see him earn a weekly wage of £120,000. Arsenal can surely afford to meet his wage demands.

Should the African finally move to the Emirates Stadium, he will probably be a replacement for Theo Walcott on Arsenal’s right wing. And I doubt any Arsenal fan will complain, if the Englishman is dropped from the first team.

Walcott hasn’t covered himself in glory and many Arsenal fans will obviously want to see someone better brought in as his replacement in the team. Of course, the Gunners have Alex Iwobi, but let’s face it, the Nigerian is just 19 and there is no guarantee that he will be able to deliver over the course of a full season.
