Mourinho Ready To Beat Guardiola To Signing Of £50m-Rated Star

Premier League giants Manchester United have completed the signing of top defender Eric Bailly this summer, but it appears that boss Jose Mourinho is still keen on another centre back. Hence, the club have been linked to John Stones, who has also been rumoured to be close to a move to Chelsea.

Manchester United, while under the tutelage of Dutchman Louis van Gaal, were strongly linked with a transfer for highly-rated Everton central defender. And despite the fact that Van Gaal has left, United still remain keen on the Englishman. For obvious reasons, Blind is not a natural defender, Phil Jones doesn’t look like he will ever be injury-free and both Smalling and Eric Bailly cannot not provide enough defensively by themselves in the course of a season.

The Guardian reported last May that Jose Mourinho is also looking to signing the England international defender in the summer. The Express also suggested in a report last month that new Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is set to beat the Portuguese tactician to the signature of John Stones.

Latest reports have it that Manchester City are the only club that are keenly interested in the signing of Stones. Everton are said to be demanding as much as £50 million for the player, as reported by Sky.

With United looking like they have so much money to spend this summer and City, as usual, willing to give their manager the free hand to spend as much as he wants, it will be interesting to see where Stones ends up at.
