Manchester United will in a couple of days be announcing the signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus as according to Ladbrokes, the deal is all but done. Only on Tuesday Paul Pogba revealed Manchester United are his “first family”.
Ladbrokes have slashed the odds of the Frenchman who is also a target for Real Madrid to just 4/9 in favour of a move to Manchester United before the summer transfer window closes on Septembr 3rd.
Interestingly Ladbrokes feels with Pogba, Manchester United have a great chance of winning the title next season and have pegged the odds of the Red Devils dethroning Leicester City to 4/5. While the odds of United winning the the UEFA champions League with Pogba in their team is priced at 6/1
Ladbrokes media officer Dave Burin said; “Get ready to see the world transfer record shattered and Old Trafford in raptures as one of their own makes a stunning return to his footballing family.”
ESPN had on Wednesday in an obvious attempt to get Pogba to reveal his next destination presented the Frenchman with three shirts. A Juventus one, a Real Madrid one and a Manchester United one.
To the Juventus shirt Pogba was quoted to have said “That’s my team, my family, it is where I am playing”
And about Real Madrid, Pogba said; “They won the Champions League this year. They are a great club.”
While for Manchester United, he reportedly said; “It was my first family.” Quotes via independent
And when he was asked directly how he will react if Jose Mourinho wants him at Manchester United, he simply played the pressmen by saying “I don’t know. Let’s see, let’s see. For the moment, I am here [Juventus] and I am happy here, but I don’t know where I want to go.”
Obviously if he was sure he will be staying at Juventus he would have seen the question as a golden opportunity to put all the rumours regarding his future to rest? From all indication Pogba is on his way back to Old Trafford. And as indicated by Ladbrokes’ odds, United signing the Frenchman will make them the favorites for the Premier League title next season.
His signing will not only make Manchester United a threat again, it will also boost the club’s commercial activities. He will surely sell shirts and other merchandise. He will in my opinion be worth every penny spent on him.
It is particularly refreshing that an English team is able to beat Madrid to the signing of a player, a world class one such as Pogba. In the past, Madrid would certainly have won the race but thanks to the new TV money, the English clubs can also now compete favorably against the big teams from Spain and Bayern Munich.
