Chelsea under new manger Antonio Conte are looking to reinforce their current squad that performed woefully last term, a move that could bring new faces to the Bridge, and couple of exodus at the club.
In a bid to reinforce the current squad, the West London club have already secured the signature of a top striker in Belgian star Michy Batshuayi from French Ligue 1 club Marseille. Most Chelsa fans will certainly be hoping the player will end up becoming a legend at the club like the last striker the Blues bought from Marseille-Didier Drogba.
Having signed a striker, it looks like Conte’s attention has moved to bolstering his midfield, and several top midfielders have been linked with a move to the Stamford Bridge club, including French international midfielder N’Golo Kante. The signing of a new midfielder could signal the end of some midfielder’s career at the London club.
The place of Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas in the club will be threatened if a new midfielder is brought into the club. Reports emanating from British tabloid has it that the ex Benfica star is set to agree a move to reunite with his former boss Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
According to Daily Mail, Jose Mourinho feels the Serbian will be a big upgrade on the current Manchester United midfielders and is willing to give it what it takes to bring him to Old Trafford before September 3 when the window officially closes. The mail also reckon that Matic is happy to complete the move to Old Trafford.
And to be honest, the likes of Michael Carrick, Morgan Schneiderlin and Ander Herrera who played in the DM role for United at different stages last season didn’t really cover themselves in glory and it is not a surprise Mourinho is trying to bring in another defensive midfielder.
Whether Chelsea will sell the Serbia remains to be seen. And in my opinion, it is almost impossible to see Matic leaving Chelsea anytime soon. By signing Kante, if it happens that’s, Chelsea have only ensured they have two reliable players who can play the defensive midfield role. Before Kante, Chelsea have always struggled and look vulnerable when Matic is not able to play for whatever reasons but by signing Kante, they have two very reliable options.
They needed another DM before Kante and if they have Kante, I don’t see why they will be shooting themselves on the foot by getting rid of Matic. And even if they have to sell, they are certainly not going to be selling to a direct rival.
