Personal Terms Agreed, Chelsea Target To Sign 5-Years Deal With Arsenal

That Arsenal needs to sign another striker this summer is something virtually all football fans and pundits the world over agree to. And Wenger seem to have finally realised this hence the Gunners have been linked with signing of various strikers ever since the 2015/2016 season ended.

The chase for the signature of Jamie Vardy of Leicester City is well documented. And ever since the Englishman rejected Arsenal, choosing to stay at Leicester City by signing another contract, Arsenal have been linked with the signing of at least one striker per week.

This week news emerged that Arsenal are interested in signing one of their long term targets Gonzalo Higuain. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was in 2013 linked with the signing of the Argentine but for whatever reason, the deal the did not materialise. Newer reports claim Higuain is now the main target for Arsenal. Although the South American has been linked with Chelsea as well, the Blues have since signed Michy Batshuayi which has seen the rumours linking them to the signing of the player dying down.

And if Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli is to be believed, the deal is looking like it will happen. According to the Italian, Arsenal have agreed personal terms with the former Real Madrid striker. This, Arsenal are said to have done through the player’s brother who is also his agent.

The terms of the agreement according to Emanuele Giulianelli will see Higuain earn as much as €9 million annually. Giulianelli reckons Higuain will sign a 5 years contract with Arsenal which will see him earn €45 million (£37.5 million) in the course of his 5 years contract. According to Giulianelli Arsenal will pay €70m plus various add ons to Napoli for the services of the Argentine.

Higuain scored 36 goals in 35 league games for Napoli last season which is by any standard an impressive record especially for a player that is player in a league as the defensive as the Serie A.
Personally I believe Higuain is the sort of striker that is able to help Arsenal win the league, especially if Wenger keeps hold of Mesut Ozil and the core of his current Arsenal team but I simply can’t see the Frenchman paying €70m for a striker who will soon be 29.
And to be fair I don’t think it makes sense paying such an amount of money for Higuain. Arsenal will be better served to go for someone like Draxler and a Icardi for a little more than the €70m Napoli are demanding for Higuain. Higuain is good but who says at 28, going 29, he will be able to cope with the fast nature of the Premier League?
Giroud scored 16 goals for Arsenal last season which is a poor turn over for a striker that is trusted to lead a club trying to win the title but probably Arsenal would have won the league if someone other than Sanchez contributed more goals? Walcott scored 5 league goals which is extremely poor.
In my humble opinion, Arsenal could do with a wing forward as much as they could do with a centre forward.
