It is normal in football to see managers who have left a particular club moving for the players of the club they leave once they are in another job. Brendan Rodgers picked on Swansea City as soon as he became Liverpool’s manager. He signed Joe Allen and tried very hard to sign Michu but failed.
Mauricio Pochettino tried hard to get Lallana and Luke Shaw but failed. David Moyes got Fellaini but failed in his bid to sign Baines. Thiago Alcantara followed Pep Guardiola from Barca to Bayern and if reports are to be believed, could be on his way to Manchester City with Guardiola once again.
The same situation looks set to play out at Chelsea with reports claiming Jose Mourinho who is now at Manchester United is interested in signing Cesc Fabregas.
With new Chelsea manager Antonio Conte set to bolster his midfield options by signing players like Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante, Roma’s Radja Nainggolan and Valencia’s Andre Gomes, Fabregas may have to contend with limited playing time, which could force the Spaniard and some other current Chelsea midfielders like Mikel and Oscar to seek first team football elsewhere.
According to Daily Mirror, former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is set to lure the former Barcelona star to the red half of Manchester, if his current club feels the Spaniard is no longer wanted at Stamford Bridge, should they eventually sign their midfield targets.
The la Mesia graduate who was once at Arsenal joined the Blues two seasons ago, and went on to win the English Premier League with the London club under the tutelage of current Manchester United boss. The midfielder who is thought to have a good relationship with the former Mourinho had a poor season at the Bridge last term but there is no doubt about the quality of Cesc who found the back of the net 6 times and assisted 9 times in 49 games across all competition in a relatively poor season by his own standards.
His signing, if it happens, will be interesting. He will be expected to play in the 10 role for Manchester United which then brings about the question of “where will Wayne Rooney play?”
Rooney has been playing in the Fabregas role for Manchester United mostly in recent time and it is expected that he will be deployed in the same role next season as the likes of Martials and Zlatan will fight for the role of the striker. Which means if Fabregas joins the Red Devils, Rooney will be reduced to a bench warmer but be declared surplus to requirement.
