A look at Jose Mourinho’s managerial career from when he was at Porto, till his last job at Chelsea will reveal the fact that the Portuguese likes to work with small squads. Mourinho and Arsene Wenger are probably the coaches who hate rotating their squads the most.
And if you believe a report by the Express, the former Chelsea manager and United’s vice Executive Ed Woodward are working hard to trim down the current Manchester United squad. Mourinho is said to have sent a massive statement of intent by banishing both Guillermo Varela and Tyler Blackett to the reserves amidst reports that both players could be sold before the end of the transfer window.

With Joe Rothwell already gone, it appears Jose Mourinho is still keen on getting rid of some of United’s young players. Aside the youngsters, established players such as Daley Blind and Juan Mata have all been linked with moves away from the club. Mourinho is known not to like Mata having sold the former Valencia star to Manchester United when he was Chelsea manager.
The Portuguese is known to prefer a number 10 who works hard and helps in defense and unfortunately he doesn’t see Mata as hard working and it will not be a surprise if the Spaniard is also shown the exit door. Also, with Paul Pogba deal looking like a possibility, it remains to be seen where Wayne Rooney will play next season. However, it must be said that Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the former Everton striker having openly admitted he likes and would like to work with Rooney.
He also tried to sign the England international for Chelsea when he was in charge at Chelsea.
