Louis van Gaal might have two games to save his job

According to sources, Louis van Gaal must win his next two games against Stoke City and Chelsea to keep his job as manager of Manchester United. The United board may still pull the plug on Van Gaal’s reign in the next 24 hours, but there are indications he may be given two more opportunities to save his job.

United currently sit in fifth place after their 2-1 defeat to Norwich. Despite a poor run of results, Van Gaal believes he still has the backing of the board and of his players.

United center back Phil Jones came out in support of his manager:

“It’s not even questionable in the dressing room. The lads are absolutely fully focused on performing well for the manager, the fans, ourselves.”

The current favorite to replace Van Gaal should he be fired is former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho. But there are suggestions that certain members of the board are against Mourinho’s appointment.

Current Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola is also considered a candidate to take over the job in the summer, although he is linked heavily with a move to Manchester City. Van Gaal’s assistant Ryan Giggs would take over as interim manager in that case.
