Christian Benteke will join Liverpool from Aston Villa subject to a medical, according to reports.
Liverpool looked to have activated the £32.5 million release clause on Friday, but a payment structure could not be decided upon between Liverpool Chief Executive Ian Ayre and Aston Villa Chief Executive Tom Fox.
The deal, however, will not be concluded in time for him to join the club on their Australia/Asia Tour.
Brendan Rodgers is addressing one of his most urgent needs of a top quality striker. With Mario Balloteli, Fabio Borini and Ricky Lambert proving to be ineffective, Benteke’s addition to the team is nothing short of necessary.
He had a difficult start to the season but was vital towards the end under new manager Tim Sherwood. He ended the season with 15 goals from 34 appearances.
Benteke will join the club along with 6 other summer signings including Roberto Firmino, James Milner and Nathaniel Clyne. His arrival will bring the total summer spend to around £65 million.
