Ilkay Gundogan has reportedly agreed to a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund until 2017 after talks with new boss Thomas Tuchel.
The German international, rumoured to have agreed a £20 million move to Manchester United, was widely expected to follow Jurgen Klopp out of the Signal Iduna Park with Arsenal, Barcelona and Bayern Munich also linked with a move.
However, with Manchester United reportedly opting to sign Morgan Schneiderlin instead, along with interest cooling from other suitors, his agent, Ilhan Gundogan has claimed that signing a new deal was definitely an option.
“There are several things in favour of Ilkay finding his old level and doing that in a familiar, comfortable environment.”
After spending most of the 2013-14 season out with a back injury, Gundogan has had a season of slow recovery, in what has been a poor campaign for Dortmund.
Taking the club back into the Champions League will be a priority for new boss Thomas Tuchel and Gundogan will definitely be a key figure in doing so, if he does indeed stay with Die Borussen.
