Arsenal have been charged with breaking the FA’s agent regulations, concerning their signing of centre-back Calum Chambers.

Chambers, 20, signed with the Gunners after starting his career with Southampton, making a £16 million move to Emirates Stadium in 2014. While the FA have not stated what specifically was done wrong, it is believed to concern the fees paid to Chambers’ agent, Alan Middleton. At the time of the transfer neither team felt anything to be wrong, and there is no evidence of any wrongdoing by Chambers himself.
Middleton has until 17 June to respond to the charges, while Arsenal have until the 26th after requesting more time although the club insists they have acted in good faith. When manager Arsene Wenger was asked about the charges, he responded:
“I am very happy about his transfer. I made over 350 transfers since I am here. We have a lot of enquiries about them and we never had any problem.”
Chambers has just finished his first season in the North London outfit, making 36 appearances and scoring one goal.
