QPR plan Charlie Austin replacement

With Charlie Austin coming off the back of an outstanding 2014-2015 campaign, many Premier League clubs are vying for his signature. That leaves Championship-bound QPR likely to be without a number one striker up front.

With a mass exodus of players, including Bobby Zamora and Shaun Wright-Phillips, QPR are set to seek out goalscorers to get them back in the top tier of English football.

The Evening Standard reports that the London based club are readying an offer for Rickie Lambert.

The 33-year-old didn’t have the best of debut seasons at Liverpool this year and will likely be sold elsewhere this summer (enter QPR).

Although the former Southampton man wasn’t the answer at Anfield this season, perhaps he could help QPR get promoted again.

The details of the bid for Lambert have not been released, however, whatever bid is offered may not be enough, as Liverpool are rumoured to have different plans for their underwhelming front man.

Reports state that Liverpool are preparing an offer for Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke following Saturday’s FA Cup Final, and that offer includes Rickie Lambert going the other way along with the large transfer fee Villa will request for Benteke.

The coming weeks will determine the future for Austin and Lambert, but, with the likelihood of Austin’s departure, and the possibility of the Lambert swap with Villa, QPR will need to explore more options up front.
