Spurs seek new Southampton target

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, snubbed by one of his former players at St. Mary’s, has instead increased interest in another Saints player.

After Jay Rodriguez rejected Tottenham, among many other Premier League clubs when he signed a new four-year contract to stay with Southampton, Spurs are now looking to sign his teammate, Morgan Schneiderlin.

The London Evening Standard have even reported that Tottenham are the odds on favourite to bring the French midfielder to White Hart Lane.

Arsenal were the previous favorites to win Schneiderlin’s signature and despite the recent news in favour of Spurs, many still believe that they will win him over from their north London rivals, as Champions League football could be a big selling point.

Pochettino will look to dump Tottenham’s previous transfer blunders in Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor among others to put together the money to make moves more suited for his plans at the club, and Schneiderlin now appears to be first priority.

Among Tottenham’s other targets are Marseille forward Andre Ayew and Southampton’s on-loan defender Toby Alderweireld of Atletico Madrid.

If they can pull off the Schneiderlin move, it may attract some bigger names like these to White Hart Lane as Spurs seek to rise into a top four position next season.
