Brendan Rodgers claims that Liverpool were never interested in Memphis Depay.
The new Manchester United signing was bought from PSV Eindhoven yesterday, signaling the club’s first foray into the market this year.
Before the signing however, Liverpool were also rumoured to be interested in the Dutch international with Rodgers labeling him as a ‘very talented player’ in April.
But in a press conference today, Rodgers stated that Liverpool have other priorities.
“It wasn’t something that we were ever interested in. We already have four wingers at the club.”
If that wasn’t a blow for Liverpool fans, Daniel Sturridge could now be out until September, extending his nagging injury problems this season.
“We anticipate he’ll be back to train around September and then it’s about getting his fitness.”
Liverpool travel to Chelsea this Sunday, looking to keep up their slim hopes of making the top four.
