Louis van Gaal unhappy with busy Christmas period

After seeing his side beat Newcastle 3-1 at Old Trafford, Louis van Gaal is unhappy that Manchester United will have to play again in less than 48 hours.

The Red Devils travel to in-form Tottenham next and the Dutchman believes this scheduling goes against the rules.

“With FIFA and UEFA’s rules it’s forbidden to play within 48 hours. In England, it’s okay,” van Gaal said. “I cannot prepare my team like I have to prepare. We have unit meetings, and team meetings, we have training 11 against 11, and assimilating opponents, we cannot do that now.”

Van Gaal however was pleased with the performance against Newcastle and had special praise for captain, Wayne Rooney who was deployed in midfield yet again.

Rooney scored two goals and set up Robin van Persie’s goal as United remained in third place.

“But I am very pleased with today’s performance. When you [Rooney] score two goals and you give the assist to the third goal, then you are happy as the manager. He is very happy also,” van Gaal said.
