Manchester United legend and current Queens Park Rangers defender, Rio Ferdinand has tipped his old club to finish in the top three.
After a shaky start to the season, a rich vein of form under new manager, Louis van Gaal has seen the Red Devils currently occupy third place with 32 points.
The gap between 3rd and 7th place Tottenham is only five points but Ferdinand believes United are now nailed on to finish in the Champions League spots – though many United fans would prefer to spend their money at the casino rather than back their side to finish in the top three.
“Six weeks ago I think you’d be thinking hopefully they’d get in the Champions League,” Ferdinand said. “Looking at them now, I think they’ll finish definitely in third place, definite Champions League, then maybe they’ll get one of the cups.
Ferdinand also believes that if they can keep this run up, then United could go even further than 3rd spot.
“If they continue on the run they’re on, then who knows? They could go into second or first, but I think Champions League this season would have been something they were asking for and I think they’ll finish in that comfortably.
(Van Gaal) had a sticky start, but the lads seem to be getting a better understanding of what he wants and you can see that in the results in the last six or seven games. Michael Carrick coming back has been a huge plus for them.”
